Earth Friendly Milk
Came across this website: http://www.earthfarmfriendly.com/cer...n_elements.htm and thought it was kind of interesting. This is a group that will give you an "earth friendly" certification as long as you use bovine growth hormone, milk 3X day and keep the herd confined.
Their theory seems to be to maximize production and feed conversion efficiency so that there don't need to be as many cows, farmers or farms and then allow the surplus farmland to be put to other uses.

Re: Earth Friendly Milk
Sounds like a developers delight. Wonder who backs these folks behind the scenes.
Remember, even the paranoid have real ememies!
In SOCAL , especially San Diego and Orange counties, water conservation was the holy grail for years and may still be. Of course the bigest impetus behind water conservation was the big $ developers. If everyone conserved on water there would be enough to support several thousands of more homes. This unholy alliance between developers and conservationists (conversationists?) reapears as often as a new angle can be found.
If dairying is made super efficient then a lot of agricultural land could be put to a higher use, more highly taxed use anyway, single family homes, condos, stripmalls... Just what we need!

Re: Earth Friendly Milk
What a cynical, evil way to manipulate the public. They should call it "Earth Friendly Farce".
They are trying to make "business as usual" sound healthy and beneficial. It's like saying, "Buy old Massah's cotton because he got the best slaves, works dem till dey drop, and don't waste money on stuff like water and food for them."
In fact, we're gonna CERTIFY that any Massah that treats his slaves this way is "Earth Friendly" because they die sooner and get re-cycled back into the ground."
Thanks for the heads-up.
