Lime and East Coast Floridians
Hello all,
I'm a newbie to the board and am in need of help. I had my soil analyzed and i'm in dire need of lime as my soil is very acidic. Is there a tractor/spreader/service that anyone knows of who would spread lime on 7 acres? I need about 2 tons an acre. Any help would be very much appreciated

Welcome.
Afraid I can't help the lime situation none but have you looked into the yellow pages or talked to a local farm supply store. There may even be a Govt. agency that could help.

Call Stan at Grove spreader service/Kissimmee Valley Feed.

Re: Lime and East Coast Floridians
Thank-you for the POC Joe. Hopefully he'll be willing to travel.
Edited to add: What was your PH and how many acres do you have?
Re: Lime and East Coast Floridians
I have 11 acres and two of my pastures are very different soil types. One pasture is near wetlands and it is VERY ACIDIC. After 12 inches in rain in one day that pasture flooded, so I expect the pH to have changed. It had a 4.6pH and required 2,200 lbs of lime per acre. My sandy pasture had a 4.8pH and I think it needed 1,800 lbs per acre. Target pH for Bahia is 5.0. I usually do my lime and fertilizer spreading in February. I overseed my bare sandy areas with rygegrass in November using a chain harrow and spreader.
By the way, I have another number for Stan 406-947-5661. If he doesn't travel, he may know someone in your area.
Good luck,
Joe
Re: Lime and East Coast Floridians
Thanks Joe! I have called Stan a few times now and have not had any lluck geting him to return my calls. My PH is a 4. I need to get lime down a.s.a.p and with the horses being gone for a bit, this is the best time. I'll be overseeding with rye as soon as it gets below 80 during the day.
Re: Lime and East Coast Floridians
Stan is usually in his office between 7:30 and 8AM. He heads out to do commercial work after that. I usually pick up my feed around 7:30 and he is usually there.
Good luck,
Joe
