Post and beam style pole building?

Hi all,
I was thinking of building a pole building using beams set on top of the poles. I can't seem to find any info on this type of building. Has anyone done it this way or seen plans like this? It seems most pole barn beams are constructed by sandwiching 2x material to the top of the posts. This seems like a weak design to me directly relying on the fasteners.
I am going to set 32' trusses on the beams the trusses will have a second story framed into them. I live in washington state so the snow load is influencing this design idea. Building will be 32x32.
Any info would be great.
