Pilipili
Anybody ever tried this stuff? My stepson's friend brought us some once, in a small bag, and we loved it. Hottest stuff I ever tasted. But we can't find it anywhere, and searches on the net only show wholesalers.
I don't know for sure, but I suspect it puts Scotch Bonnets to shame in terms of real heat. (What's the measurement again that people use for measuring the "hotness" of peppers?)
Any hints appreciated...
TIA,
Bob

Re: Pilipili
pepper hottness is measured in scovile units
-
Re: Pilipili
Yeah, Scoville heat units. Here's a rough comparison (the same breed of peppers vary quite a bit in heat depending on location and other factors):
Bell Pepper: 1 000 units
Jalapeno: 30 000 units
Serano: 50 000 units
Habanero (the hottest known to man): 100 000 units
There's a very good book available for general information and growing methods: The Pepper Graden.

Thanks again,

It's the green pasty substance served with sushi, sort of a Japanese horseradish. Great stuff!

If you do, remember one thing - breath in through the nose, out through the mouth.
