Anything except for pine. The resin that seeps out is horrible to have to clean up from floors. It also cracks and shoots sparks too much for me. I'll just about burn anything else though. I prefer any of the hardwoods to burn indoors but outdoors and in the shop, I'll burn just about anything that I can find that has already fallen. Keeps the woods clean that way.

The same here, whatever is dead in my forest but all we have is softwood, such as larch, red fir, white fir, lodgepole, hemlock, ponderosa. We use it all. I use 12 cords each winter, heating the house and shop. I'd say the favorite is larch (tamarack). It makes you warm twice: when you gather it and when you burn it.
