WELDING [GETTING FLASHED]
MY SON JUST BECAME A CERTIFIED WELDER
AND THE OTHER DAY HE CAME HOME FROM WORK AND TOLD ME HE GOT FLASHED, BUT NOT THE ONE THAT DAMAGES YOUR RETINA. THE FLASH HE WAS TELLING ME ABOUT HE SAYS IT MAKES YOUR FACE AROUND EYES FEEL LIKE YOU GOT REAL BAD SUNBURN AND EYES WERE HURTING AND PUS LIKE MUCOUS SUBSTANCE. THE THING WAS HE DIDNT GET FLASHED BY HIMSELF HE SAID WHILE WALKING BY ANOTHER WELDER THIS HAPPENED. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANYTHING THAT YOU CAN PUT ON OR AROUND THE EYE'S TO HELP.
HE TOLD ME THAT THE MUCOUS AND PUS WILL GO AWAY IN A FEW DAYS. BUT HE WAS BURNING AROUND EYE'S WHILE WE WERE TRYING TO HUNT SATURDAY.
HE WAS TOLD TO PUT POTATOES ON BOTH EYE'S AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT IT PULLED THE MUCOUS AND PUS OUT
I WAS JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE MIGHT NO OF A WAY TO HELP HIM. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP
Re: WELDING [GETTING FLASHED]
Best to see a doctor as soon as possible and receive proper medication as well as having the incident independantly evaluated and documented.
Maybe also wear safety glasses with dark side shields when working around welders. They will protect from the side flash and debri when walking by someone who is chiping or grinding.
One can also get in the habit of holding your hand along side your face when walking by welders. After time it becomes an automatic reaction.
A commercial working environment should have shields placed around a working welder to protect others from this type of incident.
Hope he gets better soon.

He should make sure his helmet is working correctly. A faulty helmet can cause this to happen.
