I like to leave some habitat for them, away from the house. They are pretty cool when they are not pecking at the house.
When clearing brush and stuff, it is nice to leave some small piles in out of the way places. The birds and other critters like the "cover".
I just noticed deer tracks in the yard this winter. Been here 4 years and never saw a track before. They were nibbling on the dropped (can you say rotten) apple remains.
Sorry, many of those magnificent birds winter in the NE all year. They sure can make a pile of dust outta an old dead tree though.
