    Re: New Socketsystems question

Each tip up is each "bent" or bay of the building. It is costly but not crazy compared to trusses. The bracing I mean is the gable models hauch bracing and collar tie up top. This is 2x6 bracing...

    Re: New Socketsystems question

The steel is 3/16" thick, generally when they are finished the sheet rock is placed between the posts so the nice looking posts show inside.

You can sheet rock it flush with the inside too but...

Re: Anybody use Socket Systems to build a barn?

I'm not sure I understand your question? The lumber is 6" by 6". There is a huge variety of building sizes you can make using their connectors.

It is extrememly expensive to use solar photovoltaics to heat water. If you are going this route look into batch heaters and thermosiphons etc. If you have good solar exposure you may be able to...

Re: Anybody use Socket Systems to build a barn?

I've been dealing with Socket Systems a bit and they have been helpful. Doing the engineered plan dance with the building inspector now.

    Re: Utility Pole Lumber

There are quite a few people doing this with dust masks etc. They can be good lumber but lots of hardware in them to risk hitting with the saw.

AutoCad does both I believe. I don't really know which is a standard format.

    Re: dream trip to Maine

I live in Canada, next to Maine in New Brunswick. If you visit outside of peak tourist season the prices drop significantly. B&B's and friends are the best $$ for lodging.

    Even in Canada it is...

Re: Are we going to survive this???

I'm glad you're having good luck! Our neighbour built their house this spring and managed to dig up our property, build their house in our right of way, $%& in our woods and not clean one ounce of it...

Re: Anybody recognize this chainsaw bar?

You aren't supposed to use em' on brush, they are for bucking pulp logs. Using them on brush or felling can be dangerous.

Re: Metal roofs-how to repair holes in them

I used tar in the fall on my used sheet metal shed roof. That last until the first real day of summer!

I now do nothing as the holes are on the peaks of the ribs in the metal and hardly any water...

Stihl, Husquvara, Jonsered, Echo, Shiwdaiwa all make good pro model saws.

I have a Stihl MS260 that works great.

Re: Slab on Grade on Frozen Gravel Soil?

Sometimes the poorly drained organic material can heave and give troubles. I would recomend you look into removing the topsoil one way or another and get some coarse material in below your gravel. ...
