Re: Water pressure switch to protect well pump?

There is a type of pressure switch that will cut the pump off if the pressure falls below a pre-set level. The pump cuts on at about 35psi and off at about 65psi and the pressure tank holds pressure...

Re: Cattle fencing & stream access?

I got a neighbor that does this. His cattle go down to the river (really just a big creek) for water. He went out in the river about 16 feet and set two T posts about 20 feet apart. He has one hot...

    Re: Fence Post

I wouldn't treat them as the cost would exceed new steel posts.
As long as you plan on replacing them soon they should be fine.
Make the tops sloping to shed water, and taper the bottoms.

    Re: Finding survey pins

Ok, then I got a question about my own survey pins.
    Last summer I calculated a heading of 4.94dd S of E.
    Should I have used 4.94dd E of S instead?

A neighbor put a fence up and I suspected it...

    Re: Finding survey pins

    N 50'56'14" W = 50degrees 56minutes 14 seconds North of West.

    50 degrees + 56 minutes * (1 degree/60minutes)
    + 14 seconds * (1 degree/3600seconds)
    = 50.9372 decimal degrees

    So start from that...

Re: Water pump power requirement /sizing

When our well was drilled almost 10 years ago it had a flow rate of 3gpm. We have 2 houses on that well and a total of 6 people + weekenders.
We are also 18 inches behind on rain for the year....

Re: Water pump power requirement /sizing

That's why you need to know the refresh rate of the well.
If you are pumping 2gpm but the well is only flowing at 1gpm
eventually you will pump it dry if you don't give it time to refresh.
    And...

Re: Water pump power requirement /sizing

There is 3 types of head (regarding pumps).
Suction Head = the distance from the pump to the water surface.
Since you have a submersible pump this figure is irrelevant.
    Lift Head = the total...

Re: Water pump power requirement /sizing

What is the flow rate of the well.
If greater than the pump rate then you can use the 80ft level.
Oversize your solar array to allow for line losses.
Go with close to 150 watts of solar panels.

Re: How many strands for barbed wire fence?

I fenced off half my yard last summer with just one strand.
Sure, a calf could walk under it in some places.
    But the calf usually...

I don't haul bales. I don't use hay or straw for anything.
I have a trailer I could haul square bales on if I needed to.
Or a neighbor uses 4x4 round bales. He could bring me one.
