    I have been researching Dexters as well. And I like the idea of a dual purpose animal that can provide milk as well as meat . Also the relative small size does seem positive for beginers...

    Get a firm price from the builder first. Then offer cost plus not to exceed and split the difference between the quoted price and the price he brings it in at. He will have incentive to watch costs...
