how to attach birdseed to bird house?

We saw an ad in a magazine for a birdhouse. It is covered with seed. The ad's idea is that the birds can eat the seed off the house, and live in it.

We want to build our own. But, we have not figured out how to attach the seed to the wood birdhouse. Some type of adhesive must be used, that is "bird safe". Any idea's on an adhesive that might work?

how about good old paper mache glue: ie flour & water?

Check around your kitchen to find sticky edibles, peanut butter, maple or corn syrup, honey come to mind.

The flour and water might do the trick... We want to make gifts of a couple of these; they would not ship well with peanut butter or honey ect.

The best way to stick bird seed to anything (including a Bird House) is Lard.

Good old pig-fat (lard) works great The birds love it!!!!

I'm not sure that covering a bird house with bird seed is a good idea. Birds like to raise their broods in privacy and the avian equilivant of a gingerbread cottage would compromise privacy.
