    CAD for House and Outbuildings

Can anybody recommend a software to use for designing structures? I do not mean detailed blueprints but simple software to get an idea, maybe material list for diy projects. It does not have to be the most primitive tool but I have tried one 3D CAD that was way to complicated.

Broderbund 3D Home Architect is quite simple to use and has lots of features.

I was just getting ready to post that same info, but figured I better check out your post first. Glad I did. I found this software easy to use, very informative, and pictorial. One can move into and around the structure to view the design from nearly every angle. I designed and built shop cabinets as well, using 3-D Home Architect Deluxe 3.0

I'll look at it. Hope I can afford it, saving for the house, you know.

For free go to Artifice . They offer a lite version of their Design Workshop software. Its very good for getting an idea of what a project will look like.

I used the Broderbund software to design our new home. Spent hours moving walls around and making the changes that cost when an architect does the same.

I took the plans to an architect and he did the drawings for the permits. He did make a few changes all for the better. I know I saved money using this program and got a better house.

It was easy to use and did the job for a very reasonable price.

I did order the Broderbund software. In the meanwhile I downloaded the free version from Artifice. Boy, I work with computers for 30 years but it is not too easy to use. Granted, I have not studied the tutorial but it is not as intuitive as would like to. Well, when I get the Broderbund SW I will take time to study it.
