For those following along at home: I thought I'd tie my various posts (wood flooring, baseboard removal, & wood stove to name a few) together for an overall picture. I'll udate the status & post some pics too. Since discovering that the floor in the family room & kitchen was real wood, the project has evolved to incorporate the entire first floor! Since CBN is only as good as we make it, I will continue to make seperate posts for specific questions so that future members can make sense of it.
Overall Plan:
New paint, crown molding & floors (1/2 refiinished) in all the rooms. Some kind of chair rail & wainscotting in the diningroom. Woodstove in the family room.
Status as of 10/21: Carpet & baseboards removed from living & dining room. Painting prep started. Spackled a few holes & lots of caulk removal required. I swear they used an entire tube on a couple of the window casings! This is definitely a case of less is more! Crown molding up on two of the dining room walls.
I think we are making good progress for the amount of time invested so far. Trouble is the social director keeps scheduling things to do on the weekends other than our "homework". We had a team strategy meeting yesterday. Specified quick to prep meals for the week (freezer is now full ) so that we can spend more time on the rooms. Also vowed to limit social outings on the weekend (not all her fault -- had to take care of the sailboat this weekend). Talked roughly about time to complete. She was a little upset that we won't have a place for a Christmas tree this year. Good news is that I have two weeks off for Christmas. I plan on using the time for the last big push to be fininished painting so that the floors can be done after the first of the year.
