Re: Whats a good bandsaw

Thank you all for your informative replies.

I went out and layed my money down for an industrial 14 inch King three speed with extension. It will take a 3/4 inch blade. Most of the brands mentioned are not stocked in the stores here.

The fence will be heightened and a carrige for the first cut on the logs made. There will also be table extensions added to add support.

The saws that were really attractive all started around the $2000. mark but those are not in my buget.

My Bandsaw finally arrived. I made table extensions but have not yet installed the rizer block. Figured I could use lots of practice before that happens. The saw came with a 3/8 blade which was replaced with a 3/4- 3 teeth per in. blade which really changes the ability to cut to maximum depth. I am happy with it so far.

Now if only my knee gets better I'll be able to make proper use of it.

Egon, The Grizzly model GO555 has been getting some good press. It appears to be good value @ $375.00.

Well, Egon.....
Have you had much practice with the bandsaw yet?

I'm leaning toward the 14" Grizzly with the 6" riser.
With shipping, $485.
I've cut timber (cherry, maple, walnut, sycamore and poplar) that I need to mill and was going to use the bandsaw for that purpose. Nothing real big.
Trying to find a sawmill around here is like waiting on the flat rate income tax and the gummit to get smaller!

Right now, preparing the garden soil and flower beds is eating up my time!

Gary:

Gone through quite a few blades so far. So far all is good. Almost all the work has been on wet lumber trying to get it into resonable shape before drying.

Been on a learning curve so really can't share any gems of wisdom. Can tell you a lot of things not to do though.

I've got a King 14 in. with the 6 in. extension. It's a three speed . I've attached extension tables, 4 feet, on the feed and out feed side. They can be folded up. Gonna change them sometime as they look like blinkety blank and figure I can put together a better system.

Real happy with it so far. But then being the first one don't know the difference.

I love my bandsaw, but that rock maple sure is tough on blades! I finally bit the bullet and bought a Lenox carbide tipped bandsaw blade. Wow! That's all I can say. Wow!

WOW from the cost $$$$ ?
Or WOW from the difference in the way it works?

Both. At first the cost stunned me as it was three times the cost of the old Timberwolf blades I used. But so far it's cut 10x more wood than the old blades and is still sharp! So it now appears to be a great deal.
