    Melting salt froze solid!

I bought some melting salt, "MAG Total Dust Control", because it said it was "good for the environment". Problem is, it freezes! It's a powder, rather than larger chunks like rock salt usually is, so it absorbed moisture and froze. So, I had to chop it up to use it. Once I got it spread out it did work, but I wouldn't recommend buying it!

What is the temperature at your house? Salt lowers the freezing temperature, but when that temperature is met, nothing will keep water from freezing. I believe salt becomes useless when the temp is below 18 or so.

I believe that the MAG means magnesium. I'm not too familiar with how that works though.

It was in the teens. I had another bag of regular rock salt, which was not frozen. I'm guessing the MAG stuff absorbed moisture after I opened the bag, but the rock salt didn't?
