We have a logging company here in Colorado that harvests standing dead trees. However they were unable to find 20 16" dead trees.

So I called a log home manufacturer here in Colorado who imports duglas fur from Origon. They are then left to dry for 2 years.

These 10x10 were cut from 16" logs. Using one of those track based band saws that you allways see advertised in the back of magazines. (the log company had one).

I found that the wood cost about $1 per pound. A 20' 10x10 weights in at about 400 lbs.

The post and beam structure cost about $6000.

However their was one gotcha. My soil is mostly loam. Loam can only hold 1000 lbs per sqr foot. Soo I build a huge fat foundation to act as a large snow shoe. I put 45 yards of cement in that foundation -- 4 trucks!
