Thread: Concrete over rock?

    Concrete over rock?

The path that leads from the back patio out to the parking area is old flat field stone. It most likey has been around 70-80 years if not new with the house in 1900. It has over time sunk down to even or below the ground, See the attach photos.

What I would like to do is put up some 2x6 forms and lay down some concrete In place of the stone. Can I pour over top of the flatstones or do I need to pull them up? I really hate to move them.

Here are several photos in the next few postings.

You could pour over it. The stones would act like a base.

You do realize that your walk way would be 3 1/2" above ground unless you dig down thus you'll be digging up your rocks or better yet... put some down weed cloth and some landscape timber along each side of the walk and fill it in with mulch

Its hard to tell in the photo but those stones are about 1-2 inches below grade at some points. Makes for a messy walkway in the winter and when it rains. Mud and ice cover the walk way.
