    Lawn pest identification

In the past couple of weeks I've noticed cone-shaped mounds of freshly "ground" earth about 3" in diameter and 2 - 3" tall with a small 3/16 to 1/4" round hole in the top. I have these in several places in my lawn. Sometimes there are two or three of these cones close together in a 6-inch area. If I roll over them with the tractor while mowing, in a day or so they're back. I've not seen the critter that makes these either coming or going so I'm wondering what I've got and how/if I should get rid of it. Any ideas?
I live in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia and we've had quite a bit of rain lately so the soil is damp.

Of course I have no idea what you have really, but what I've had in the past that meets that description is the Cicada Killer wasps.
