    Interesting Deck Construction

I finally got around to pulling down an 8'X8' deck the previous owner had put up off the back door.

The construction was interesting to say the least. Almost a catalog of what not to do including: no flashing between deck and house, consequently I have some rot in the sill to repair, rim joists nailed to house using decking nails, roofing nails used in joist hangers, etc... All in all a catalog of errors.

Its hard to believe that someone would spend good money on materials and then build something so sloppily. The only saving grace is that the deck wasn't that old so I can re-use almost all of the lumber.
