    Carpet over Concrete

I could use some advice on laying carpet over concrete in my basement. The entire basement is 7 feet below grade and my concern is mildew/rot/ ordor over time. I have never had any water problems in the basement. I have placed a rubber mat on the floor and examined underneath after it had been down for several days. I see a slightly darker area where the mat had been, so I know their is some dampness if not allowed to evaporate. Any help would be appreciated.

Our local ChasePitkin sells a plastic waffle material. It looks like thin egg carton. Its 3/4 thick and comes in 6' wide x 100' long rolls and they will cut to length. Its made for that type application. Its not expensive yet not real cheap. Its just what you need Al_Wa. Hope that helps ya.

I had excellent success with Homosote ComfortBase in my basement. This material lets the floor "breathe". I do run a dehumidifier full time in the summer.
