Hanging heavy mirror in plaster wall

I've got to hang a large antique mirror (approx. 25-30 lbs.) on a wall made of plaster. House built in late 1950's. What is the best way to hang it. Anchors? What type is best for plaster and holding that much weight?
    Thats in advance.

Your best bet is to find a stud and hang the mirror from a screw or nail driven into the stud. If you need to go between the studs, I've used molly-bolts (?sp) with a small hanger. Most hardware stores or big box Home Depot type stores will have them and usually on the box they will state what type of load they can carry.

If its heavy, studs are the best way, though they can be tricky to find in plaster walls because of the lath. I've used toggle bolts or these sort of metal mushrooming thingys to some success.

At least with a toggle bolt, you can likely orient it so it spans the lath, and a couple should be strong enough to hold up 20 to 50 pounds.

If its drywall, it could be iffy, but at least the studs are easier to find.
