Wooden Silhouettes

I'm sure many of you have seen the black wooden silhouettes of cowboys leaning against a pole or house.I was wondering if anyone knows the directions for a life size horse silhouette.

Gary, I think the correct method is to get a horse to lay down on the plywood and then chalk an outline around him. [img]/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif[/img]

Use charcoal or chalk. Get a book on drawing animals. They show the center points of arcs, like the rear haunches(right work?/ rear end?), neck ect. You can do the layout and then fill in freehand.

You may want to try this on cardboard first. A big piece of cardboard is cheaper than good plywood. When you have finished and are happy, use the carboard as a template to lay the design on the plywood.

Friends of mine do metal sculpture in 2d and some 3d. They make some big stuff, and that is how they do it. Les is a good freehand artist, but she still has a number of books for reference. She has to do the layout on cardboard, since a lifesize piece of steel is a chunk of $$$.
