I want to plant something to attract the deer. I've seen milo planted in food plots.Is there a mix that I can buy to plant for the deer? I have never seen deer near the milo plots.What should I plant. Whatever I get ,I would like to be able to get in at least 20-50 lb sacks.
Clover works well around here.
Some farm supply stores sell a deer mix.

Yea, the garden works great. But I don't want to hunt in the back yard. I am going to talk to the guys at the local feed store.
I've seen folks around here plant buckwheat.

I picked up a 50# sack of crimson clover and a 50#sack of timothy seed today,they said to plant it thick and fertilize it good in a month or so. I thought I'd alternate between the two seeds every 10 feet or so.
I plan to seed down several plots 9.5 feet wide and 40 or so feet long. My disk harrow is 9.5 feet wide. I will put the strips in good view of our deer tree stands.

I usually have seen crimson clover interplanted with a tall grass/grain crop. The Timothy will give the clover something to climb so it stays upright. I guess you could plant them separately, but I think they'd do better together.

I can put the seed together,I just thought it would look neat seperated but I think you're right about clover falling over. I'm hoping to get time to do it this weekend.
From my experience, you should plant hostas, roses, tomatoes, crabapple trees (the spring blossoms really pull them in.) I've found that the more special or expensive the plant, the better chance of attracting deer.
Expensive exotic pine trees draw them too,the deer rub all the bark off the expensive ones and leave the cheap trees.
