OK, got some of the seeds in the ground and it is supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow. How long till I should fertilize ? I was told to wait till it was up3 or 4 inches or so,is that right?

Many farmers fertilize as they seed. Makes for less equipment /manpower time.

Assuming the proper kind of soil to begin with, that's probably right.

Sounds reasonable. Like Egon, I know some fertilize while seeding, not only to minimize time, but to minimize compaction of the soil.

But I don't want to hunt in the back yard
Is inviting the deer over for dinner & then shooting him really hunting or even legal?

Re: deer bait

Planting things they like is completly legal and completly moral.Baiting them is not,at least not here. But I do know of people who keep out salt blocks and grain for the deer. We have 80 acres and we don't let anyone but my wife and I hunt here. There is a hunting club on the south side and the guy on the west side has a dozen or so guys come in for deer season and the other two sides are road frontage. Most years we don't even kill a deer. Last year we had 4 deers to butcher and never fired a shot, and none of them came from here. We like to go out and just watch them. But if I want to shoot one I want the odds in my favor.
