    DRIVE SHAFT NOISE

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 RW Drive and everytime I'm at a stop and take off suddenly it sounds like the drive shaft is shifting backwards into the rearend. I also have a whining noise in the rear only at low speeds while turning sharp left or right. It is most noticable backing up. Any ideas on these to issues?

    Re: DRIVE SHAFT NOISE

Well, there are the obvious things to check:
    Fluid level in the diff
Is it a posi or limited slip (this may cause noise w/turning)
Is there any radial play in the pinion bearing (where the driveshaft attatches)
Is the driveshaft yoke tight on the pinion
Is the driveshaft tight in the yoke

On some trucks (my Ford needs this done) if the driveshaft feels like it binds upon stopping, and thumps as you pull away, the slip yoke may be sticking. Simply remeove the shaft, lube the splines of the slip yoke, and reassemble.

Does it have a steady bearing?
