    Log Cabin - going, going...

A couple of years ago I posted a shot of an old 'cabin' that was on our farm. A local historical society had been promised they could remove it to include in their display of local original farm buildings (centerpiece is a grist mill built by old G. Washington himself. ) Well, it took two years but they finally got the removal organized.

This is the shot from two years ago, showing how the cabin has looked for a few decades. My wife called this the "Grapes of Wrath" shot.

No one seems to know quite how old the cabin is - I know it appears on an 1870 survey of the farm, but it may well be early 19th century.

Here are some current shot with the vines and dilapidated siding removed - revealing the true log structure beneath.

Shot 4, notice the hand-hewn squared logs. No idea of the wood type, maybe Chestnut?

Last shot for now. The small tags are markers labeling each beam and it's position.

Thanks for the information and the photos. That's a nice cabin and seems to be in great shape!
