Insulation help

Has anyone ever used unbacked insulation in walls? I have 3 large rolls of unbacked 3 1/2" X 15" that would finish up my garage wall.

Unbacked insulation is generally used where you are adding insulation to previous faced insulation, or where you have installed a vapor barrier and are filling the space with unbacked. I would not recommend using it without installing a vapor barrier first, either by using thin faced insulation (Kraft or plastic), or by installing the proper vapor barrier plastic. Anyway, that's what I remember about it.

The barrier goes toward the conditioned space. So placing the unbacked insulation and then applying a plastic vapor barrier should be OK. Plastic on the inside that is.

Like Gary said, make sure you have the vapor barrier otherwise troubles could happen. ................J

Thanks to all. My neighbor stopped by and we did a swap for my unbacked for enough backed to finish.
