What to use for a skim coat?

The tap job on my house was poorly done and I need to go over it. I also want to remove the "popcorn" on the ceiling and will probably need to do a skim coat over the whole ceiling. What is the best product to use? Home Depot and Lowe's has to premix on with a green lid the other with a blue lid. Will these worK and if so which is the best?

Larry, Get a spray bottle with warm water and spray the texture ceiling and use a putty knife to scrape it of. It's very messy but it will come off smooth.DO NOT SAND it. it will take days for that. You can use the lightweight(blue cover at HD) joint compound for the skim coating, that works well. As for the ceiling again, you may not have to do anything but paint it. If everything goes OK it should be smooth.
