I've done a few, Gary. The bim-bam model always seems to go off during the plot climax point of any movie we are watching. We can also hear that thing half-way across the pasture when the windows are open.

Any pics????

I've got one new mechanical movement, 2 atomic movements and several quartz movements.
I'm just looking for ideas on case making and/or other mounting ideas.
Thanks,
Gary

No, I have no pictures. (If you've read any of my other posts, I'm probably the last person in the world without a digital camera.)
The most recent one I built is somewhat Shaker style; very minimalist. I just bought some small stock from the box store (stuff like 1cm X 6cm) and glued it up. I used a router and sander. Thin plywood scraps made up the dial backing and the resonance board. This last piece may have been a mistake, because you can hear this clock chime a 1/4 mile away! We now know to stop any conversation when the clock starts ringing.

I built the Shaker Clock from the New Yankee Workshop. Turned out very nice. It was a wedding present for my sister so I don't have it to photograph

Re: Clock Builders

Anybody know of a good book for repairing a clock.

My parents have a grandfather clock that I grew up with that has stopped working.

Chillimau, unless you are wanting to keep it authentic, KlockKit has some wonderful mechanisms (movements) you could buy for replacement. Another source I have used is Cherry Tree. (The latter also offers neat kits and plans for all sorts of wooden things.)

Would it be possible to find a jeweller that still had knowledge of mechanical clockworks?

www.slarose.com is a great site for movements and parts, also.

Check your yellow pages for clock repair. They could probably look at it and tell you if it's worth fixing or putting in a new mechanical movement.
