    coal to insulate pipes

    hi,
My local coal supplier recently told me if you backfill your buried pipe ( my boiler pipes run underground from my garage to my house) with coal dust it will never freeze. He said you should insulate the pipes to prevent heat loss. Is this true or is he trying to get rid of his excess pile of coal dust.

Sounds interesting. Did he suggest how much insulation be placed on the pipes prior to the coal dust treatment?
