To answer the original question.....there are a lot and it depends on your area of interest.

On the western side there are a ton of breed specific magazines out there but you cant go too far wrong with Western Horseman. Another good one is Performance Horse.

There are many magazines out there and most focus on a particular type of horse activity. We are just pleasure riders and don't do shows or other events. We've subscribed to both Horse & Rider and Horse Illustrated. But the one publication that I recommend highly is The Horse. It is focused on equine healthcare and have an excellent website at www.thehorse.com.
