Had done ours in crushed limestone. What a mess when it rains. Just had 26 14 yd. loads of recycled blacktop brought in. Makes a great dust free driveway. That's what I would look for if I was you.
Gettin Back To My Country Roots
CDooge, I have both crushed limestone gravel portions of my drive way and shale sections (nearrest the house.) The shale is superior to the crushed limestone and over time becomes almost like a good black top paving BUT you have to have a slope so it sheds water and doesn't have any cocave areas to form big puddles. The substrate below the shale (clay in my case) can get soft if allowed to stand in water.
One good feature of the shale is that it does not cause dust to get blown in the air.
