Around our house for weed prevention and a deterent to termites we placed plastic edgeing 8-10 inches from slab.We then put down weed X plastic(kinda like bis gueen with small breathing/water holes) covered with pea gravel. The termites cannot build dirt tunnels through the gravel to help them climb the slab.Rain will wash tunnels away due to loose rocks offering no support.A few weeds might come through but are easily pulled or sprayed with weed killer
