Picked up Joshua Slocums book from the library this afternoon. It was in large print too.
Very much enjoyed reading it. Think I'll provision "My Boat" and head out after the hurricane season is over.

Egon, Provident thinking, huricanes are no fun. But regarding yor voyage...In the words of Slocum's "sidewalk supervisors", "will it pay?"

"will it pay?"
The answere may "Lay Blowing In The Wind" ; but payment, is a varigated term whose fullfilment can be made in many various forms.

Egon, If you have now read Slocum's book then you will recall his downeasterner sidewalk supervisors asking that question as if the idea of preparing a vessel and takinig it to sea for any reason other than economic was alien to their thinking. Of course the high dollar cargo he took on board when he found it floating could surely pay.
As you said payment can come in many forms and I believe he was richly paid and interest on that payment goes on as each new person reads and enjoys his tale.
