Rebuilding wood splitter

Have a friend who has a wood splitter that won't run. He's let it sit around for a couple of years. He wants to get rid of it. I have another buddy with a running 16 hp Briggs & Stratton. What would I have to look out for with that big of a motor would I have to much RPM or pressure for the hose's? Is it to much horse power? Never have done this before so any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Al

It should make no difference other than the motor running smoother and the splitter working better on tough stuff.

What Egon said plus if you have a pressure relief valve the unit could be powered by a blown injected Chrysler hemi and nothing bad would happen.

Thanks for the replies. My buddy is going down to look at the splitter tomorrow. Hopefully it won't require a total rebuild. Never have done anything like this and am looking forward to the challange.
Take care
