Maybe on BIG tractors, but not on a JD4100. At least not on a JD4100 with R4 tires and matching wheels. The wheels are one piece. The most you could do is turn the wheels inside out. But it looks as though the "dish" of the wheel is already to the inside. I'll have to measure over the weekend to be sure.

    Re: Tire chains

If your front tire chains fit, you will be amazed at the difference they will make. I have tire chains for all 4 tires of my tractor, but haven't used the rear ones in years. I have a hilly 1/4 mile long gravel driveway, and chains on the front are all I need. It also steers a lot better with chains on the front. Try 'em, you'll like 'em!

I might have to try the fronts. I was worried about putting too much of the load on the front drive train.

Yeah, but how about ONLY on the fronts? Wouldn't that put too much of the load on the front drive train?

    Re: Tire chains

I've been running chains on the front wheels (only) of my tractor for 10 years now. I plow a 1/4 mile drive here in Northern Vt, and have never had a problem. I've heard a lot of folks say doing this is bad for the tractor. My experience says it isn't a problem. Who knows, during the snow storm we are supposed to get tomorrow, it may all fall apart, but so far, I haven't had problem one.

I just added chains to the front of my little tractor and am well pleased with the results. Time tell if there will be damage.
