Aug 2006

A photo that shows a little about my land. You can see the oat field on the left my 1/2 acre of sweet corn down the middle and a slice of horse pasture on the right. I have a hay field behind where I took the picture.

The oats were planted as a cover crop on an addition to my hay field. The Amish were havesting the oats thus the "shocks".

    Another very nice photo.

Those stooks, as we called them, bring to mind much hard work and thrashing time.

Well, my thrashing memories are just a little different. The loaded hay rack is the same but we blew straw into stacks and the grain was usually augured into into a grain bin.

Actually, they did this a little different last year too. He was able to bowrow a cyclone to feed the bailer. The grain goes to wagons and the straw then goes dirrectly to the bailer. Otherwise they get two sepparte piles then clean them up. They went and got all modern last year.
