The 6x6 beams are setting on top of steel stringers ? that are run between the upright steel supports and then the other end is resting on a load bering wall.
I have met 4 families that started out to do what you say you want to do. They are all living in the original building and have no immediate plans for building THE HOUSE. Two of them really like their "temporary" house and dropped plans to build THE HOUSE.
On the other hand, I know several who lived in an RV or trailer as temporary quarters and remained motivated to build THE HOUSE. I am in this second group (see South Central Oklahoma Farmhouse Thread.)
