Confused and confusing almost twins calf

Here is a picture from an Associated Press story that appeared in the news paper.

    Dateline, Litchfield, Nebraska:

A Black Angus calf born recently is alive and frisky. It was almost fraternal twins and has the sex organs of both sexes and 6 legs. The extra legs are attached to the pelvic region and one is a foreleg and the other a hind leg. One doesn't reach the ground. The calf gets arouund OK. It had some surgery to build an anus.

Usually this sort of a freak doesn't live long and has severe internal problems but this calf seems OK, weighs 85 lbs now and is as frisky as the other calves.

That is pretty interesting. Around here, I know several breeders who would NOT have had that in the paper. They wouldn't want what could be deemed negative press concerning the genetics in their herd.

I'm always surprised when someone publicizes something like that. I would have expected the farmer (or rancher) to have destroyed the calf when it was born and tell no one about it.

Right Bird, But instead, in this case, they did surgery to create an anus and then put pix of it on the wire service. Go figure.

Now if they were selling quarters of beef they have an advantage as this calf has 6 quarters, three front and three hind.

And Gary, those darned pesky aliens and their experiments on our cattle!
