Probably a good plan but you might need to trim the dew claws sooner than the others since they ordinarily don't make contact and get worn down as the others do. Snagging on family members probably won't wear them down fast enough.

Over the years I never had dew claws treated by a vet on any of our dogs but our situation was just that, ours, and your mileage or dew claws may vary.
