That's a terrible loss, Egon. Peach trees do tend to be a bit flimsy if they have a good crop. You know north central Texas has had an unusually cool, wet Spring and early Summer, so the peach crop in this area is supposedly the best in 10 years.
So, could you have forseen this, and removed some of the fruit to prevent the tree being damaged? Or did the fruit (or wind) come so fast, it just snuck up on you?
Yes it could have been averted. Dither and dather were unfortunately the controlling factor.
However, for long term for the tree it may be for the best. The tree had two separate leaders was very misshapen. This will allow it to grow into better form.
