Lakefront steps
Spent a few hours splitting granite boulders for use in an set of steps on a lakeside hill.
My first real attempt at splitting rock.
This picture shows a rock with one side split off and the feathers and wedges installed in holes on the next piece to come off.

And the final product. One rough granite step yet to be placed!

Re: Lakefront steps
So what kind of drill did you use to drill in granite, and how long did it take to split that rock?
Re: Lakefront steps
The drill is a 1/2 Makita hammer drill. That rock took about 1/2 an hour. I am drilling the holes too deep but that is on the learning curve.

Re: Lakefront steps
Egon, your said that step was done. Don't you have yet to chisel off any evidence of the drilling?
