Other day, service 4wd light popped on and I could not disengage front axle. The lights on the dash showed it in 4hi and it wouldn't switch. Restarted truck and then it worked fine, changed to 2Hi and light never came back on.
Today in the snow, noticed that the front wheels were not turning in 4hi, 4lo or the 4 auto. The lights on the dash switch indicated that it was working fine with no service commands for the 4wd either. Very puzzling, really hoping not expensive. Any thoughts appreciated
If you have the "Auto 4WD" or "Autotrac" option there was a common problem with the push button switch panel that would cause the Service 4WD light to come one. You can try cleaning the contacts on the switch panel or buy a new switch panel (part # 15709327) for ~ $40.00.
