Spent the last three days out at the play farm doing some real logging. The access road and some trails had some overhanging trees that block access in the winter when they load up with snow. These got removed and are piled up awaiting conversion to firewood length.
Then for some real stuff. There was one section of five or so hung up blow overs. I've been looking at these for several years now but have never had the courage to go neat them with a saw. The neighbour told me to notch the backsides and just leave them. they would come down in the next windstorm. This I did at the end of the day. Lit a fire on the fire hill and was sitting down watching the ducks chomp corn and I could hear this odd crack from back where I'd notched the trees. One had already fallen down and several more were on the way.
There was also a windblown pine that had not quite reached the ground. This time it was down. I got one nice piece out of it.
