    Goat Question

Been raising goats for a few years. Every year one kid out of our 10 - 15 kid crop will chew its rearend and under its tail until it bleeds. It happens with both sexes. We were told it may be lice. If that was the case wouldn't the twin have them too? They always sleep together. We have been treating them with a hydrogen peroxide cleaning and some type of antiseptic. But they keep it up. Usually it stops around 4- 5 weeks old. We also dust them with diatomaceous earth.
Anyone know a cause and cure?

    Re: Goat Question

Is it the same mom or dad? Kind of sounds like hemmorhoids (sp). Witchhazel works good on humans, not sure about goats. Do you have any ticks? Esp the little tiny ones that could be missed during external control. Our dog is very fastidious about cleaning around the tail but not fanatical unless there is a burr or something.
Since it does not seem to be an infection (peroxide and such) an overly hard plug that is pushed out after birth? How about a particular mom's mouth and tongue? When she cleans them up?
Do you think bitter apple (like the dog) would keep them from licking to blood? Or some other bad tasting, but non toxic substance?
    No fun, change the rules!!!
