I have 2.5- 3 acres of 4' tall rye with 12" of fescue underneath it. i have offered this to a small hay farmer for free..we just need it cut. The problem I see is the area is small the terrain is sloped and the soil has some small rocks in it that could tear up the blades on his small drum hay mower. My other neighbor has offered to come bush hog it, for time and fuel-then we would rake/drag it with a landscape rake to the lower pasture which has no grass and feed it to our three horses. I have a rubber track skid steer. can i rent something to cut and rake this with. Will a brush cutter cut or lay over rye grass? I am a little nervous about my neighbor climbing on this slope with his 31 hp kubota and 6' bush hog-although he hogs his own sloped land occasionally. We should have put the horsese on it 3 months ago, instead of watching it grow out of control. do i need someone with a sickle mower? Can you rent these?
