We want add a lean to on an existing horse pole ban and want to maximum space. How far can we come out ? We live in Central New York and have lots of snow which often piles up 4' off steel roofs. There is alread a lean to on one side which terminates at about 8' high.
1st of all, might be better to post questions about Pole Barns in the Barns/Buildings section.
2nd, Your question "How far can we come out ?" is pretty broad. How much room do you have on that side? What's the overall height of the barn? Roof Pitch? Type of roof? Do you care about the asthetic look? I.e. Do you want it to match the pitch of the other lean-to?
The little information you provide (snow loads) would only be pertinent AFTER you've determined the footprint of your addition when you're determining the structural aspects of your project. Good luck.
Hello and welcome to Country by Net, we are friendly here and eager to help when we can.
Here's a link to a .pdf created using the building code of the State of New York. I have no idea how acurate it is and keep in mind if you get this wrong, bad things will happen.
Good luck and be sure to let us know how things worked out.
Send some photos.
Good luck
