Water pressure switch to protect well pump?

Hi, my well pump is about 25 meters from the surface in a 60 meter well, but I don't have any system of protection for dry run. The pump is approx 1 hp (can't confirm because the label on pump is missing , but I think less than 1,5 hp)
But is it possible to drop a 2cm diameter pipe down, the top being connected to a water pressure switch (and the end of the pipe open) , say to 4 meters above the level of the pump, so that when the level of water falls, the end of the pipe will be out of the water, and the pressure switch will turn the pump off (and turn it on again when the water level rises). Is this how it works? Thanks.

It's easier to just install a Pumptec. It will sense the low amps the motor pulls when it runs out of water and turn off the pump. It has the ability to reset in a programmed time or stay off until manually reset. I sell them for $169.68. They are a lot cheaper than a new pump.

Yea - Pumptec sounds good, but how much would it cost to ship to Spain?

    Quite a bit, I'm sure.

I can buy something similar here (Fanox CBM2) in Spain for about $270 - anyway I suppose shipping from USA could take ages.

I wouldn't think it would take that long, but the shipping will be expensive. Give me your zip code or whatever they call it in Spain and I'll check it out for you.

we don't have zip codes - just Spain. The postage price would be the same in any part of Spain.

Looks like $116.00 from me to you. I really thought it would be more.

What about a float switch mounted just above the intake to the pump to prevent the pump sucking air?

I think the main problem with a float switch would be that at a depth of 20 meters, it would probably get squashed by the water pressure. Actually I don't know how deep float switches can be lowered before the pressure squeezes them to bits? Apart from that the well is narrow bore, around 20 cm, so the switch would need to be very small.
