Going along with Weldingisfun's idea, let's also start a thread on dairy goats. My wife and I own a dairy goat farm. We sell our milk to 2 cheese makers. Our herd is a mix of Nubians, Alpines, Saanens and LaManchas, and lots of crosses of those breeds. We started with just Nubians, but have expanded to the other breeds. In fact, we find the other breeds to actually seem to be more resistant to parasites and other maladies.

Right now, I'm milking 30 does, and planning to expand. We had been milking over 50 does several years ago, but during the economic crunch, our cheese maker lost most of their business, and we lost our market, and we had to sell of much of our herd. Since then, we have found 2 new cheese makers to buy our milk, and we're expanding as fast as we can. We have a few more cheese makers who want to buy our milk, so we're trying to expand with the expanding market.

Any other dairy goat farmers out there?
