    Tatting

My grandmother used to tat. She would make the most beautiful dresser scarves and doilies. My mother never learned the skill but my wife would love to learn. Does anyone still do this and do you know of any good resources she could check out to teach herself.

I've never heard of tatting and I'm curious what it is? Is that another name for crocheting? The title of the thread caught me off guard, I thought it might be about tattooing! Which I'm not very fond of, but I am interested in this if you could tell me more about it.

I think tatting is a type of crocheting where the finished product is like lace. It's done with really thin yarn and a very very small metal hook. My great aunt tried to teach me when I was 8. She made all her holiday tablecloths and doilies. You can get instructions on line. I know they have books with detailed instructions and patterns at the library.
